Best Buy has purchased Napster for $121m in an effort to challenge Apple’s iTUnes Music Store which is now the number one distributor of music in any format. In 2006, Napster, RealNetworks and SanDisk joined forces to create a subscription service with a preferred hardware device, which Best Buy now hopes to leverage in the war for dominance in the online download market.
Best Buy apparently has not learned from losses by companies such as Coke and Sony when their download services crumbled.
