One of the first documented cases of a user finding a lost iPhone 3GS via the new feature appeared online over the weekend. The story tells of a man who lost his iPhone 3GS in a bar and uses the ‘find my phone’ feature in Apple’s Mobile Me tools to track down the missing device. As well as sending a message to the phone, the man was also able to send warnings in multiple languages noting the street the thief appeared to be on. Also notable is the fact that the system does not appear to work when the device is turned off, although the system will allow a user to send a message to the phone and then alert the user when the message has been delivered at a later date.
